The Runway
We created a conceptual model to represent a proposed intervention for a series of art studios. The model explored the idea of spatial disruption and reflection, emphasizing the evolving relationship between artists, their workspaces, and the architecture itself.
Constructed primarily from wood, clear plexiglass, and mirror-like surfaces, the model captured the ephemeral and shifting nature of the intervention. Key mirrored components were designed to move, creating continuous distortions that altered the viewer’s perception as they engaged with the piece.
An elevated platform, resembling a runway, lifted the model above the ground plane, reinforcing the sense of separation and theatricality. This deliberate elevation highlighted the intervention as both an object of observation and an active, transformative experience.
The overall effect was a dynamic study of movement, reflection, and space — an abstract yet tactile representation of the project's conceptual intent.
Finish:
Clear protectant was applied to the brass components to preserve them.
Materials used: Clear Plexi, Wood, and Brass
We began by taking the provided concept and translating it into a digital model, preparing it for laser cutting. Once finalized, we laser cut the components and gathered all the parts needed for assembly.
During this stage, we assembled all the cut pieces and tested the movable components to ensure everything was functioning properly.
