INSERT-CEPTION
We began this project by sourcing reclaimed oak, carefully selecting pieces that shared a similar tone and grain pattern to ensure a cohesive final look. Each piece was meticulously glued together, forming a solid panel that would become the foundation of our custom cabinet. Once the structure was complete, we milled out the doors, adding a fluted pattern that introduced depth and texture to the design. The fluting not only enhanced the cabinet’s aesthetic but also created a subtle interplay of light and shadow, bringing a handcrafted quality to the piece.
Designed as an insert, the cabinet was built to fit seamlessly within a slender brass bookshelf, transforming it into a functional storage unit without disrupting its open and airy feel. The warm, natural tones of the oak complemented the metallic brass frame, creating a balance between modern refinement and organic warmth. This careful pairing of materials resulted in a sophisticated yet practical addition to the space.
Finish:

Process to Product
We started by selecting wood with similar color and grain, then glued the boards together for the needed width. Once the shell was complete, we experimented with exterior door patterns.
After completing the cabinet shell, we experimented with different cuts to enhance the exterior design.
Through repeated testing, we landed on a pattern we liked and did a dry fit to ensure everything came together as envisioned.
The last and final step was to mill out the doors, apply the poly-urethane finish and add in the hardware.
